The market town Nußdorf-Debant is located on the “sunny side” of the bottom of the Lienz Valley, approx. 4 km from the district capital of Lienz. The town’ proximity and the diverse cultural and sports opportunities make Nußdorf-Debant a popular holiday destination. More than half of the community area is located in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The ideal location at the foot of the wild and romantic Oakland Valley makes this village a popular holiday destination for nature lovers. Access to the valley is via Wiener Höhenweg east of Winklerner Hütte and Lienzer Höhenweg west of Zettersfeld. Both paths lead to Lienzer Hütte, the only mountain shelter in the Debanttal valley. Apart from climbers, Debanttal can also be used by cyclists as far as to Lienzer Hütte. Due to its secluded location and low tourist use, the Debanttal valley is very rich in wildlife and it is home to one of the areas with the highest number of deer in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Besides deer, roe deer and chamois, there is also a large population of marmots. There are two eagle nests in the Debant Valley, sometimes you can also see bearded vultures or meet lynxes.
In addition to a wide range of restaurants with cafés, restaurants, pizzerias and the traditional Nachtbeisl, in the close neighborhood of the village there is an open-air museum “Aguntum” with a newly built museum building for those interested in culture. It resembles the famous trading town Aguntum, which was built by the Romans on part of the Nußdorf-Debant community. Golf lovers will find in Lavant the Dolomitengolf club Osttirol. An excellent place to play. The 27-hole championship course is one of the most popular golf courses in Austria, mainly due to its location with a wonderful view of the Lienzurian Dolomites and unique course variations.
